The Type 29 since 1946
The Type 29, of which locomotive 29013 is the only remaining working example, is a series of American-designed steam engines acquired by the SNCB (Belgian National Railways) after the Second World War. Robust and versatile, capable of hauling both heavy trains and passenger services, they marked the final years of steam traction in Belgium. Restored and preserved, locomotive 29013 now keeps the memory of historic rail alive through tourist runs and commemorative events.
“The railway is civilization running at full steam.”
