The Scots Guards are one of the five regiments of Foot Guards in the British Army, which make up the Household Division, responsible for the protection of the monarch and the royal palaces. The regiment was first formed in 1642, during the English Civil War, by Archibald Campbell, the Marquis of Argyll, to protect King Charles I. The regiment was initially known as the Marquis of Argyll's Royal Regiment, but it was renamed as the Scots Fusilier Guards in 1686.

During their long and distinguished history, the Scots Guards have played a significant role in many of the British Army's major campaigns and battles. They have fought in the Napoleonic Wars, the Crimean War, the Boer War, and both World Wars. In 1941, the regiment was granted the honor of carrying out the Trooping the Colour ceremony for the first time, a task they have continued to perform ever since.
